While studying architecture at the Royal College of Art [RCA annual prize], he recorded the fragmented noises of a sound activated dictaphone travelling overnight through the Post Office. That work, titled 'Recorded Delivery' [1995] was made for the 'Self Storage' exhibition [Time Out critics choice] with one time postman Brian Eno and Artangel. Since then the multiple aspects of sound became his focus, resulting in many releases, installations, soundtracks for exhibitions, and concerts using his self built/invented record players with manipulated found sound collage. The 'Tri-phonic Turntable' [1997] is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the 'World's Most Versatile Record Player'. He has performed, lectured and exhibited widely throughout Europe [Sonar, Tate Modern, ICA], USA/Canada, [The Walker, XI, Mutek, Princeton], Japan, and Australia [Sydney Opera House]. In 2008 he won The British Composer of the Year Award for Sonic Art & The Paul Hamlyn Award for Composers Prize.

Celtic Music on a button box! Celtic Button Box The foundation of my play list is traditional Celtic. However, Celtic music has a long history of being influenced by many other cultures. The copper mines of Ireland and the tin mines of England were a part of the world trade routes as early as 1500 B.C. Invasions and migrations across the North Sea were commonplace. All of this exposed the people of the North Sea to music from all over Scandinavia, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Persia. The music of all the regions influenced each other. My play list also contains some examples of this cross influence as well as Appalachian and other contemporary offshoots.

Werneth Concert Band is a community wind band based in Romiley, near Stockport, England. We play regularly at a range of venues across Greater Manchester and northwest England, plus undertaking frequent foreign tours. Our repertoire ranges from arrangements of classical music, wind and military band music, selections from films and musicals, to the light and popular. We have also commissioned pieces specially for the band. From time to time we record some of our favourite pieces - we now have 3 CDs . We rehearse weekly and accept players of reasonable ability. We have over 60 members whose ages range from teenage to over 70 and, naturally, the ability of the players varies too, from the teacher and ex-professional musician to the enthusiastic amateur.
